Assess the current situation for your sense of smell
Use this simple self-assessment test to determine the current state of your sense of smell.
It is useful to do this before you start smell training. You can then take the test again later and see if you notice any changes.
First answer these questions:
I can tell the difference between salt and sugar. Yes / No
I can taste the vinegar. Yes / No
If you answered yes to these questions, your sense of taste is probably healthy. If you answered no, you may have a taste disorder.
My food tastes different than it should, and smells that are pleasant to others are unpleasant to me. Yes / No
If you answered yes to this question, you may have a distorted sense of smell.
Sometimes I can smell things that other people can’t. People tell me that the smell is not present. Yes / No
If you answered yes to this question, you may have olfactory hallucinations.
I can detect some vague smells, but I can’t make sense of them. Yes / No
If you answered yes, your sense of smell can detect very little.
Test your sense of smell e.g. with the following scents:
- vanilla
- ground coffee
- lemon or tangerine peel
- vinegar
- garlic or onion powder
- strong herbs (such as mint, rosemary, cloves)
You can use the WellSmell training diary to record the test results, which you can request from info@cuvitex.com.
Keep your results safe. Do the self-assessment again after a few months after starting the olfactory training.
Use the same scents again to test your sense of smell and see if you notice any changes.
